FINDINGS
Mission Australia’s latest Youth Survey reveals concerning trends:
1 in 4 young people are at risk of serious mental illness.
This risk grows as adolescents age, peaking in older teens, with Indigenous groups and young women facing even greater challenges. These findings highlight mental illness as one of the 21st century’s biggest challenges, demanding action from communities, health services, and families to address this critical issue.
WHY INKTOBER
I took part in Inktober 2017 with a special focus on mental health awareness, partnering with Sh8peshifters to align with Mental Health Month.
Mental health can be a tough topic to talk about, so for this project, I focused on using visuals to make the conversation feel a little more approachable and human. The goal was to create artwork that resonated with people on a personal level, something they could see themselves in. It wasn’t just about making it look good, but making sure the message was sensitive, relatable, and had the right impact.
